Car revving when foot brake applied??

Can anyone help??

When I apply the Foot brake the cars 'revs' go up. Someone suggested that the brake servo might need replacing???

Does this sound right, or does anyone have any further ideas??

i would check the servo side, the pipe from the inlet manifold, to your servo has a non return valve. check that one. Also for any air leaks. Does your brake ped sink slowly when you rest your foot on the brake. engine running? if it does, servo problem.

By how much do your rev's go up by? Pumping the brake on most cars will make the revs flucuate by a small amount. maybe 100-200rpm. doesn't neccesarily mean you have a problem.

I'd say this is about A 4-500 RPM increase. Definately not right as it wasn't doing it before??

in that case then, as already said check the pipe from the servo to the manifold for splits/bad connections. more than likely a fault with the servo itself.

Checked the pipe and that looks to be ok.

Does anyone know if servo's are different for a S1 GTI than S2'S??

If the problem is only when the brake is applied its the servo, if it was the pipe it would be all the time.

Also S1 and S2 servos are the same

You can check the servo operation by pumping the pedal say 4 or 5 times with the engine off, then put your foot on the brake (push it down and hold it) then start the car. If the servo's functioning itll drop the pedal, youll feel it sink.
