Can anyone tell me what this pipe is please?!

After my car started sounding funny on idle, I had a look under the bonnet and discovered I had a hole in one of my pipes and air was blowing out of it. I have circled it in the photo below - its the one under the clutch cable. Can someone tell me what it is please?!!

That's the pipe for your aav it helps it idle as it warms up. You need to fix it as it will allow extra air to be sucked in to the inlet. You could tape it for a quick fix also I'm not sure if the clutch cable should touch it so maybe 're route it.

I think the VW part number is 067133643 but is not very clear on the picture from vagcat.com so best to get VW to check if you order it from them.

Thanks, that's really helpful :-). Have just found one on VW Heritage, but think I will do as you suggest and check at a dealers first and see how much they'll charge for one.
