Cambelt tensioner

Hi all am going to change the cambelt and tensioner on me MK1 1800 8v, how do does the tensioner , tension the belt ? how do i adjust it , i have not looked at it yet , and dont have  a haynes book , you now going to say go and buy one

Everyone else bought a Haynes manual………..





It tightens the belt by pushing against it, the hole is eccentric to the inner bearing and you can turn it with a pair of circlip pliers (or the correct tool) to change its position so it pushes more or less.

Without the haymens manual - put the engine at TDC and mark the position of the intermediate, cam and crank sprockets with tippex.

Then once the shops open again, don't be so tight fisted and sort yourself out the manual!!!!! LOL ONly joking

The belt and tensioner have done now done 95,000 miles so over due .thats why

Once tightened, you should be able to easily twist the belt when fitted 90 degree angle with your thumb and finger
