Post

Hi, I am looking to change my cambelt but there is no covers fitted. I have the upper and lower covers to go on but no fixings. Anyone have any idea what fixings, sizes etc, I need and where I could get them?

Use full website with part numbers and sizes.  :thumbs:You could try your local VW dealer or VW heritage, classic VW .co.uk, links on the left hand side of this web site.

From memory, mostly normal nuts/bolts apart from the bolt that goes through the water pump , which has a thin head, and this in the photo.

The T shaped bolt you may be able to get away with a bolt? There is 1 Allen key head bolt just above the main crank pulley and a normal bolt at the back for the bottom cover and the top cover is held on with the stud and round washer thing in the picture above, 2 nuts from the rocker cover hold the top cover on.

Done the waterpump and with the pulleys off to try and prefit the cover to check all the fixings etc.

It seems very tight by the engine mount, have read somewhere this could have been tightened the wrong way. This would also explain why it's never had a cover on it!!! Maybe I have to do the belt change to know for sure!

Also there is an alignment mark on the pulley, how do you know what to align this to? Didn't realise this was critical?
