cam belt change guidance
Hi Folks
I have a 1980 GLi Cabriolet and would like to change the cambelt. I've searched the forums but obviously each search brings up many results. I'm not sure if there's a definitive guide on the site but if there is could someone point me in the right direction ? Thank-you.

Try a suitable Haynes manual for a step by step guide with pictures. Failing that I'm sure someone here can help.

Yes Thanks Dannyboy but I've had a look and it seems the guidance in my Haynes manual is contained within the section on a complete strip down and rebuild, I was after a more concise guide plus any tips concerning tools etc

Haynes does provide good info, but you ned to pick out the parts. Removing cambelt is in the strip down section and refittiing is toward the end of the rebuild bit. Alternatively have a look at this on big block timing belt renewal.

sorry I thought that there were some slight differences and also that there are two different timing mark setups on the camshaft sprocket one front to the top or one to the rear which should sit at about 3o'clock

Thanks for all the help - looking at the haynes manual I think I've picked the bones out of it and I will fit a new tensioner too. Did I read somewhere that deep sockets are needed for the lower cam belt cover
