When it broke down was the engine running rough?  Any loud clunks?
Did the engine cut out at speed or did you just lose power?  Anything leaking?  Have you got petrol in the tank?

Need more info!

hi, i broke down today too, dicky starter motor though. I would say start with the electrics, take a plug out and turn it over - make sure you have a spark at the plug. If you have this check that there is fuel being pumped. Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition?

Yep, first thing would be to check for a spark.

If it turns out to be your fuel pump, I have a spare one if you want

If you can hear the fuel pump running then the fuel pump relay is working.

sorry, just can't help it mods.

mr blonde, if it just cut out all of a sudden and now only turns without firing, then it is most likely electrical. very probable that it is from beetween the dizzy cap and the tci unit.

i always check the fuses anyway. force of habit.
take off the dizzy cap and check inside. could be the carbon bit in the middle of the cap has broken. not unusual. check the rotor arm too. not much to go wrong with these mind.
check the ht lead from the cap to the coil. make sure connections are o.k. and no breaks.nicks in the lead.
next coil. check the connections are on o.k. first, then see if you can swap a coil just to check it.
last but not least the tci. again see if you can swap one to check it.

one of these are most likely to be the problem.

very much undefinate though

What - you changed the pump without checking the spark!!!!!

Do all the easy stuff first:

Spark at plugs
Spark at king lead
Fuel Delivery

Then do the details stuff…

The TCI might have gone duff - I have good used items
or wiring, coil, king lead, cap, hall sender

where abouts in essex are you? if near enough, i may be able to pop over at the weekend. i have a spare tci and could swap coils etc.. to check if they are your problem.

do check to see if you have a spark first. before you replace anything else
