Book on engine rebuilding - recommendations?

Looking to rebuild a spare DX engine I have in my garage at the moment and want to do as much of the work as possible myself.

Does anyone have any recommendations for books that give a real step by step guide to the process with tips and tricks for getting the best out of a rebuild? I have a Haynes and the Porter golf resto book, but was hoping for something with a bit more detail on the engine rebuild process.

Doesn't have to be veedub specific (although that would be nice).

Cheers,

Chris

There's a haynes Golf restoration manual that covers alot of the engine, I'd say with that and the haynes manual you should have all the information you need..

Thanks Phil, but I think thats the Lindsay Porter resto one I already have.

Just wondered if there was anything else out there that just concentrated on the ins and outs of engine rebuilding and maybe had tips on tools to get and tricks of the trade so to speak.

There is enough info between the resto book and the Haynes manual, but in a few places its a bit "and heres one I prepared earlier", plus a couple of the classic "assembly is the reverse of removal" Haynes instructions

Cheers,

 know exactly what you mean! I've only been looking for Mk1 books to be honest!

I'd be interested in a good engine rebuild book as well!

There's one called "tuning for performance and econony" which I've had for years - very good - can't find it so don't know who it's by.
