bloody k jet injection !!!!

hi guys, help needed
car wont start !
not sure what the problem is can anyone help, am not sure if cold start/5th injector is working properly, if you turn ignition on and leave for a few seconds the engine tries to start but will not run, but if you turn key and crank engine straight away you get nothing ?
., if you lift the flap in the metering head and prop open slightly the engine will run and rev quite happily, if you replace vacumn pipe( big black plastic one), nothing happens
engine cranks over quite freely throughout but wont fire up other than the afore mentioned, its getting very frustrating, has anyone any fault finding tips  or suggestions
any help will be gratefully received  ? :?  :?

Try spraying "Start ya bastard" into the engine.

i've heard that this and "cold start" is "addictive" to engines and after useing it regular cars are then reluctant to start without the stuff, is that true??

It can be. The engine burns more agressively on it and wears the piston rings and bores, lowering the compression and making starting harder etc. I'd suggest to use it for fault diagnosis only. Basically, if it starts with cold start fluid but not without, then its a fuelling issue of some kind.

If it runs with the air flap wedged open you must have an air leak on the throttle valve side of the metering head, have a check on all the connections etc.

The 5th injector is easy to test. You remove it and see if it squirts a mist of fuel. Take precautions to prevent a fire/etc

If its not working, test the electric side of things.

If its an electrical fault, check the wiring and the thermo time switch, its not a complicated circuit (see manual for diagram).

Let us know how how you get on.

This " . . .  if you lift the flap in the metering head and prop open slightly the engine will run and rev quite happily, if you replace vacumn pipe( big black plastic one), nothing happens . . . PLUS this " If it runs with the air flap wedged open you must have an air leak on the throttle valve side of the metering head, have a check on all the connections etc." EQUALS a logical answer.

This "i've heard that this and "cold start" is "addictive" to engines and after useing it regular cars are then reluctant to start without the stuff, is that true??" EQUALS stay away from drugs and spirit for a while until your head clears. I mean, come on now, have who ever told you that explain just how it would happen  :banghead:

it lives !!!!

got it to run but not exactly sure wot i did to make it happen, running a bit rough, still think there is a bit of a problem with 5th injector and warm up sensor but it does live, hopefully have a bit more time to look into it properly tomorrow but thanks to all for the humour and the help !!

The engine should still fire up even if the cold start valve is not working. Checvk that the auxillary valve is not stuck closed. You could try advancing the dizzy a fraction and increasing the mixture.
