Another Oil Pressure light/buzzer question ! Sorry!

I've done a search and cant seem to find any deffinate answers/solutions. Basically when driving at low RPM (2000'ish) after a while the oil pressure light/buzzer comes on and as soon as I blip the throttle over 2500rpm it goes away for a bit till I've been driving under 2500rpm for a while again.

I hear this is a common fault, but cant find the soloution!

Any help to a new proud (and clueless) MK1 owner would be cool chaps.

Cheers

Neil

I have a similar (but opposite) problem. My oil light comes on when the engine is cold and if I go over 2000rpm. Once warm it goes away. Never found a definitive answer to this problem. I've heard that blocked breather pipe coming out of the rocker cover can sometimes cause this. And also the gauze within the rocker cover itself. Have you tried cleaning these out?

neil, chances are that it is a faulty sender. probably the one on top of the oil filter housing. a cheap solution, and if wrong, not a large expense.

it worked for me.  :dontknow:

my car has been doin the same as this too! i cant believe ive found someone with the same problem - i try and describe it to people and we dont know whether its an electrical fault or the actual engine itself. it does it when the engine is cold to and i rev up a bit..then goes away around the same time every day but the light constantly flashes, we've tried new senders - hasnt worked, its sooo annoying.
Some help would be good!
however although this doesnt seem electrical my temp gauge has also stopped working. grr

I've got one too but not got round to fitting it yet as it's such a big job

Is'nt there two oil pressure switch's tho, one on top of the oil filter and one on the side of the head? for high and low pressure?

I'm sure I read that somewhere !

i had the same problem but as soon as i rev'd my car over 2000 the buzzer came on, it turned out to be the L shaped curcit board in the back of the clocks!! common problem aparently.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

Every great icon needs to have a nemesis. Nelson had Napoleon….. Sherlock Holmes had Moriarty…… Dangermouse had Baron Greenback.  :starwars:

The mk1 golf has the oil buzzer.
