A Slight Rattle

I've just bought a 1983 Mk1 1800 GTi.  I'm keen to do it up as a little project but want to be sure its worth the effort.  One thing which concerns me is a rattling sound when I engage the clutch at speed.  This happens as the revs drop.

Any idea what it might be?

Peter you have some great mechanical knowledge , but tic tacs only rattle when you start up .


Seriously though murphywk .

Your rattle may be any thing , clutch , release bearing , exhaust heat shield , engine mount , etc etc , the list could go on .
Providing the rattle is not heard at other times i would let it run its course and see what happens [may get worse or may disappear , if it gets worse it will be easy to find]  or get your self to one of the many MK1 meets with the car and get a second opinion from other owners
