a couple of easy techie questions...
Hi all
Apologies if these have been asked before - I did search first but can't find exactly what I'm looking for!
* Could someone tell me what the little switch on the dashboard marked '1 2' does?
* The top end of the engine 'ticks' when cold, but stops ticking when warm. Likely a valve clearance issue (haven't checked them yet) but wondered if I should do something immediately or if it's one of those 'they all do that sir' jobs.
cheers
Rene

1-2 switch changes the mfa function.
ticking when cold is tappets, dont worry about them unless they do it all the time.

Ahhh - no wonder the mysterious '1-2' switch does nothing - I have no MFA stalk / doodad. Thx for advice on the tappets - is the 'tick' possible to adjust out? :-)

Depending on your cars age it will more than likley have hydraulic tappets, these 99% of the time make a tick upon start up.
If you have solid tappets then you can shim them.
Like i say nothing to worry about unless its excessive.
Oh and also engine related questions should be posted in the big block section

what age is the car? if its hydro tappets then a oil change and some addative should help quieten them down, if they are solid ones use the guide in the how to section and measure the gaps
