I think the pl engine was installed in the American gti from 1987 onwards and was then replaced by the 9a in America later on. I think that was the case anyway. 16v pl and kr are almost exactly the same. Hope that gives you a little bit of info I might be corrected later on though.

Hi!
The main diference is that PL is catalitic, and have more smoother cams.

think the use 9a cams which are "smoother" on the inlet as to not damage the cat.
suppose you could not use a cat. kr cams on the pl and see how it goes.
both should have wur

Run's fine. It's basicly the same engine.
I think the inlet manifold in the PL is 42mm and in the KR is 50mm, but i'm not shore.

kr is both 42mm and 50mm. I think the pl also has some sort of electromagnet in the metering head. Think im right in saying that.

the only difference between the engines is the pl has a lame inlet cam to avoid cat damage, and slightly different engine managment to allow lamda control again for the cat.

swap a kr inlet cam into a pl, and you have a kr engine ;)

inlet nothing to do with it, kr got both the 42 and 50mm inlet depending on the age of the car
