1.8 gti 8v 1983 ilding problems

everytime i drive my mk1 hard the idleing seems to up ill put it back down but once i have been for a burn it will go up to about 1600 revs till it cools right down.

I think you are getting a leak from one of your pipes going to your injection system. When the pipes heat up one of them is expanding and its allowing an air leak and thus the idle will go up… you need to drive the car up to temperature and then check all pipes to the injection system - I'm sure your find one that is moving, if you take one of them off your notice the idle will go up. You will need to either tape it up short term to confirm the issue and then replace it with a new one.
