hi

it could be that your timing is 180 degrees out cheers

How have you determined the No1 piston is at the bottom, not the top? If you're reading off the markings on the flywheel properly (and also double check the crank pulley; and the mark on the dizzy body) that's an impossibility, since the flywheel-crank bolts are arranged so that they can only bolt together in one position.

I took N.o spark plug out and it's def at the bottom when you line up the tdc mark on the flywheel so i've set it up with piston one at top dead centre but the markings on the fly wheel are 180 degrees out the intersproket is  lined up and the cam is too fired up no problem but same as before no reall power ajusted the timming so the rotar arm lined up with correct mark think my ower problem is fuel rellated though as you here the pump coming on and off ( maybe someone did a fly wheel oil seal and put the fly wheel on upside down?)

The bolt pattern isn't a regular hexagon, one of the bolts is offset. They'd have had to do it and miss out one of the bolts! Have you rotated the engine through a full turn, looking at the marks on the top of the flywheel (take out the entire plug at the top of the bellhousing, and use a torch). I suspect you're seeing another mark around 180? fron TDC, on the flywheel - maybe someone put a mark on it?

The mark i was using is the diamond that it show's you in the haynes manual when this is lined up with the notch through the gear box the n.o 1 piston def is at it's lowest, another question i have is there has been a brand new fuel pump fitted to this car but it still seem's to be whining alot any ideas?
