1.8 8v Cab GTi engine.. Starts and cuts out after 5 seconds

Hello folks

Im calling on your epic knowledge in hope that you can help me cure my cars starting problem

The car had been running perfectly but i left it sitting for a month.. I came to start the car and it would start.. run for 5 seconds and then cut out… I manged to get it running using with some fuel injection cleaner in the airbox and pushing the flap up and down.. that seemed to sort the problem for a few days.

I then took the car for an MOT (it had no problems whilst there) I brought it back home afterwards.. It was idling on the drive, I put the hazzard lights on and it cut out.. its now back to starting and cutting out straight away

Ive tryed a search but tbh its got me very worried as it looks like ive got a minefield of problems it could be lol

Many thanks
Winston

try bridging the fuel pump relay at the fusebox to rule out the relay,if it still wont run you will need to do a system pressure test.

As above

How do you bridge the relay. not an expert? i am having similar trouble, brought the car back from local vw specialist (new gaerbox) driving down the road, kangarooing, drop into lower gear, accelerated, felt like i hit a brick wall, then it died!!!, mate towed me home, the car then jumpstarted, ran, then died again!!! if i leave the car for an hour or so, it will start, then die!!!! and it wont turn over or anything……….not sure if electrical or mechanical or both!!!!!
