1.6 wiring harness work on 1.8 gti engine?

We just bought a 1.8 GTI 8v engine for our mk1 golf, but we didnt get any wiringharness with it.
Does the wiringharness for 1.6 work on the 1.8 gti?

yep it'll be pretty much the same, simpler if anything

Except for the reverse light switch, possibly.

And coolant level sensor.

reverse wires are on the lighting loom so makes no odds what engine loom you have, coolant level warning isnt really a problem either if you have the warning loom then fit a tank with a level sensor, if not then you just wont have the low level warning anymore just like all poverty spec mk1s.

you can even add it back in if you like its dead simple. splice 1 wire to coolatn temp, 1 wire to an ign live. then its 1 wire to level sender and the other wire plus relay earth to ground. simples.

But I assumed the op meant the car is a 1.6 gti already and you want to swap in a 1.8 gti lump though, if not main issue is making sure you get the right loom to match the fusebox

I thought he might be trying to use an entire 1.6 loom on a 1.8GTI. Unsure.

Yeah its a 1.6 but not GTI, but the 1.8 is a GTI so it would be a non GTI 1,.6 harness on a 1.8 GTI engine. Thats the question

you will need an engine loom from a 1.6 or 1.8 gti to match your fusebox, the 1.6 carb engine loom is no good at all.
ideally you need a rear gti wiring loom too, but you can add the pump wiring if you want. depends how good you are at wiring

the rest of the wiring is fine, dash, lighting and the rest.

Oh okay, that kinda sucks because I really cant find any looms around here.
