1.6 kjet thoughts please

Thinking about having a play with engines in my 81 1.6gti. Currently it's on Kjet but I was thinking about going to twin 40 webbers.

Does anybody have any experience of side draughts on an 8valve and how they fit with the bulkhead?
If I cam the engine is there any really performance gain in carbs over the kjet?
Any thoughts would be helpful as I don't know what to do I thought about the 16v route but am a bit daunted with the wiring side of that!

Why of why would you replace a fuel injection system with carbs ?

They will be thirsty as fuelling is a compromise with carbs to allow them to work across the rev range.

You are very likely to introduce flat spots as you have less control over the fueling - not that you have fine control with k-jet, but it is significantly better than a carb at metering fuel to engine demand, the Bosch engineers spent many an hour sculpting the metering head :-)

16V wiring is simple and there are lots of detailed wiring guides, rubjonny on here would make you a loom.
