Will only run with choke on!

Hi all,

Just got a 1988 1.8 with Pierburg 2E2

It starts and runs great but as soon as the choke turns off the engine will die as soon as you lift off the gas.

When running the car runs great

Any ideas?

trouble with these is a couple problems can combine tyo make it seem like something else, your best bet is just check everything top to bottom!

look at the carb flange underneath though, if split that would lean out the mixture and could lead to issues like this. also make sure the bracket and steady bush are fitted correctly, as if the front of the airbox is not secured the carb will move around too much and split the carb flange again

Is the carb flange just like a carb to manifold gasket?

yeah the rubber bit between carb and inlet
