where does this go

having a few problems with my car..as some may have picked up, while routing around in the bay i found a vacuum pipe hanging fown off the back of the carb but have no idea what its for or where it goes, its been melted by the manifold so is nackered now but im replacing all the vacuum pipes anyway so if anyone knows what its for or where it goes then id be most gratefull and ill put it back    it comes off the back of the carb, seems fairly central?
