because contary to popular beleive a well set up 1b3 is as good as weber. but not many people can set them up so give up and chuck a weber on as it's easier.

the vacuum system is a bit fiddly and you need to make sure the start up sensors are working (the 2 on the block that people seem to think make any diffrence after the first 5 mins)

I didn't say it was, and it is not easier.
I was asking why fit original carb if weber was fine, why not wait til for example it knackers up, least then he has a genunie carb with lesser miles and perfect working order ready to go on.
If it's not broke don't fix it.
Since my first ever vw i fitted a weber and better the devil you know etc

My dolly still in my pram
I thought it be pointless in my opinon to mess about when not needed unless carb was faulty, but everyone has there views and reasons, he'd get some money for it when he sells anyhow

I think the Pierburg design is a lot better/more complicated which is why it's harder to setup. I'm personally sticking with it and can't really see why anyone would pay extra for something doing the 'same job'.

I agree with what both Pete and Novo say really, no point making it standard for standards sake, and at the same time not much point putting a weber on in my opinion, but each to there own, and that wasn't really the questioon asked :)

Just check your vacuum pipes are in the right place and that you put the original airbox with the flap back on (and it works), as the pierburg seems to like this working properly :)

Also check the little electric heater on the side (of the carb) is working too, its not critical except when it gets cold, like it is now for example :)

When did you put a weber on yours?

mine had a weber on when i got it so dont really know if the pierburg/solex carbs make any differance, when the carb was leaking from every possible gasket i just replaced it with another dmtl just for the ease of it tbh, mine is missing all the valuble vaccumes an the big green orb thing,

cant beat 1 mixture screw an 1 idle screw though imo

Pierburg 1B3's only have 1 mixture and 1 idle screw, or is that what you meant?

At Peteandmel, you don't need the vacuum sphere aka green ball after fitting weber bud.
I'll post pics up for you after arsenal game bud to help you put them right fella
Both carbs have 1 of each as regards idle and mixture screws
