Sounds possibily the belt slipped a tooth maybe, timing is out, Possible air leak, have you check these yet before stripping down the carb which will be a 36TLP as menioned above.
Could be possilbily rust particals blocking jets in carb which basically need unscrewing and blowing through and clean carb out with carb cleaner.
Has the fuel filler neck ever been replaced, have you checked in the tank for rust aswell as holes on top area of filler neck where it meets the bodywork.
There are plenty of easy how- to's on the forum for you and your carb, these are free and easy d.i.y jobs for anyone and as you can see from above there are many possibilties.
Depending on where you are someone might be able to give an helping hand in pointing out the faults fella

But I just had a tinker with mine today and advanced the timing about 5mm. No hesitation at all now and not very much choke is needed, I can cruise around @25 in 5th too.
Load of things were up with my Carb, including a big piece of gasket poking into the throttle body.
Check the basics 1st and if you get no joy, strip and clean the carb IMO
