WEBER Carb/Air filter question

Afternoon All,

Did a bit of tinkering earlier and fitted a new hot air pipe from exhaust manifold area into the air filter box. (Circled in Blue). As I was doing it I noticed that the whole air filter box rattles about. (Circled in Green). The car has has a WEBER Carb fitted and the air filter box is not attached to the carb at all and just sat there under its own weight causing it to rattle.

Any ideas as to what has been done, or how to rectify?  :dontknow:

Cheers

looks liek you are missing the adaptor plate for the mk2 airbox, get in contact with the guys over on webcon.co.uk they might have the kit in stock for you

Wasn't aware it was a mk2 airbox  :| shows how good I am at this   would it not be easier to re-fit a mk1 airbox then or is that out of the question? Would the strut brace effect being able to put the adaptor plate in place?

Cheers

It is not a mk1 nor mk2 airbox i.e 1.6 or 1.8 block, as the air filter boxes for these, the holes diameter are larger than that of the original solex 1B3 and weber 36tlp for the 1.5, thus they will not fit.
Your engine is a JB block 1.5 and as the manual choke replacement weber 36tlp carb.
Your answer is there fella, but you are missing a part.
I have pointed to the bracket in photo.
If you remove the air filter box, on top pf carb at 2 holes roughly 10 & 4 o'clock positions, there should be a brass looking bracket that bolts to the carb via the 2 holes with 2 x 10 mm nuts to hold in place, and on side of this bracket are 2 holes i explain below.
The holes on bracket are at 9 & 3 o'clock positions and you will see smalls holes the bracket i point too connects too.
Once they connected, simply pull the bracket over the air box, you will see the small 2 grooves on the metal part of airbox at the top.
The bracket rest there thus pressure downwards.
Pic showing also the actual weber part you need

Forgot to add further,
you can use the front part only (Plastic section) of the 1.6 & 1.8 to replace the damaged one you have as i see the nut and bolt have snapped off.
There should be a bracket which bolts to the 2 middle front rocker cover 10mm nuts, then the bolt which i mention is snapped joins this bracket via another 10mm which will keep the box's stability adn further help in not rattling about.
This is the replacement part in order to keep using your excisting front part of airbox, then you need the bracketwhich i am sure someone on here will have.
Least once you've fixed that it will help lessen teh rattle whilst you venture for teh weber airbox bracket.

I believe the reason the bracket is missing is because the metal part of air filter box will not fit when bracket fitted.
And they have thought, "OH it won't fit with bracket on, i'll leave it" instead of thinking of way to fit it.
In order to see if this is the case, remove the metal part of air box and look underneath.
I will show you picture of little mod i did in order for it to fit, with a dremel cutting a small section of one side only of the lip.
This will then fit over bracket that is missing.
Reason being is where the 2 bolts fit bracket carb,  the bracket is sightly thick, this mod ensures fitment.

Anything else you need, let me know fella

Thanks a lot for your help…

Is there not a new compatible filter box I could buy to directly replace the one I have. I.e just connects straight onto the WEBER? I'm assuming not, otherwise they would have done it wouldn't they, but if there is could be an option?

I have pulled the bracket over the air box though as you mentioned and it has helped.

Cheers.

Not that i know of.
Your best solution is using original airbox and fitting an aftermarket filter which you can wash and re-oil.
I have these on both my mk1 & mk2.
Try and source the weber bracket, and fix the front end of the air filter box with the screw ebay link
