weber carb 36tlp on a gx - bolts too short HELP!

Hi everyone, i have a 1983 mk1 golf gx. It has a 1.5 engine and i have got hold of a weber 36tlp carb to replace the crap auto choke standard carb

I fiitted the carb at the weekend but could only start the car to test it worked properly beacsue my standard bolts are too short. This means they were not threading into the manifold very far. I have two options, thinner gasket or longer bolts. Can anyone advise me on where to get hold of longer bolts or a thinner gasket???

Has anyone else had this problem??
