Weber 32/36 DFEV on 1.6l?

My Solex is dying on me, and I've been throwing parts at it all winter to no avail. I see various kits on eBay for mk1 stock engines, and am considering a Weber 32/36 DFEV.

Does anyone have any experience with this? or am I better off with a different carb? Will probably have to switch manifolds anyway, so open to suggestions. Not really interested in anything that drinks fuel, but could sacrifice some for more power..
