Carb flange is what you need to be looking for, you can buy replacement, one from ebay here, GSF also sell them and might be cheaper as do VW heritage.

I've seen someone make one out of alloy but not sure how they got on with the heat from the manifold going up into the carb so don't see why you could not make one out of plastic?

A decent machine shop could make it out of hdpe although unless you've having it done as mates rates it'll be expensive.
Should be no issue being solid. Most other engines use solid mounted carbs.

I put my cabby back on the road yesterday and it was fine(ish) lol! Got up this morning to go out n do some jobs and it wouldn't start! Checked loads of things then I realised the carb mount is cracked all down one side! My car seems to eat theses more than I eat pizzas(fave)! I see that it is a common problem but mine goes more than often, I fitted a brand new one once and it lasted a week exactly! Any1 shed any light on a possible problem? I have an '87 1.6 cabby, it's got a gti head and cam on too! Thanks for any help

make sure this part is genuine vw or good quality, the cheap ones are rubbish. also make sure the front airbox fixing rubber and bracket is in place otherwise carb will wobble about too much and cause premature failure fo the flange

As what rubjonny was saying I had this problem and the air box was pulling on the carb and therefore pulling on the rubber flange as that was the only support it had as I didn't have the bracket on. This was new and only lasted about 800 miles!
Get a rubber one from GSF etc and then make sure it is not taking the weight of the box, then it'll go on and on
