Water temp gauge query

Hi all!

the temp gauge has stopped working on my 1990 clipper. Everything else seems fine. I'm thinking it must be the temp sender/switch, or does anybody else have any ideas?

Also, is the switch the one mounted in the base of the radiator?

Thanks!!

Mike.

i had a similar prob, the sender is mouted where the top rad pipe goes into the engine, on a spade terminal.

Loving any chrome or carbon bits...

Thanks m8 - Is this the pipe with two bits in?

There is one with a red plug, and one with a grey one, next to each other.

Both have similar connections, two wires on each.

The leccy fan is working ok, and everthing else seems to be working ok.

Thanks in anticipation!!
Mike.

Gets trickier by the minute….

Tried shorting out connections to both the red and the grey sensors in the pipe, made no difference.

Somebody suggested the single wire on the side of the head. Shorted this, and the oil pressure light started flashing- so thats self explanatory!!

Found another sensor below the pipe mentioned above. It is mounted in a black manifold where the pipe joins, and it's a b*tch to get to. It has two wires. I disconnected and shorted it out, and the gauge went full scale, so I'm assuming I found the right part at last.

The next question is - anybody know what I'm on about, what is it called, and do you have a part number PLEASE!!

If it's any help, it's a 1990 1.8 carb automatic.
Thanks all
Mike. :banghead:
