Water problems...

Hi,

I have been a little worried about the water temp in my 1.8 carb cab. Its fine when i'm moving but when i stop the temp goes a couple of mill over the norm mark at which point i start getting a little smoke from exhaust, not much though. Now, the fan comes on so thats ok. This evening i changed the thermostat but when i came to re-filling with water it only seemed to take about 4 and a bit liters but the manual states 6.5! I took the usual precautions such as disconnect top rad hose and wait for water to start comming out before reconnecting and then the customary pipe squeezing to get air bubbles out.

Does anyone know why it only took 4 and a bit liters?

Cheers

Jez

Years ago when I 1st did this I was confused too. The other 2 litres was in the engine cooling galleries and heater matrix and various pipes. You'd have to disconnect very pipe and blow thru with compressed air and then let it dry to remove all the residue water.

Best to stick a hose pipe in every which way until clean water comes out and then refill with fresh water/antifreeze.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
