Water Leak, whats this part,

Hi Guys

Got a water leak on the cab, (clipper cab)  to be honest been there for a while and lazy me just left it, but it has now got to the stage that it needs sorting as i am topping up water more then fuel.

Anyway looks like it has been loosing water out the side of the head, where the hose connects. Does anyone no weather i can get the plastic hose connecter from gsf or something or is it a main dealer jobbie. As going to replace the full lot rather then just the gasket.

Whats it actually called ?, i can see the part on here but its not listed seperatly. http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/GOC/1991/44/49/490990/#18

really just need to no whats it called and weather its a main dealer order only

not sure what it would be called mate, it looks intact to me, just the seal that is shot. if you take the part along with the seal to GSF they should be able to provide you with just the seal, or for peace of mind you could get the new part and seal.

I replaced mine a little while ago - leaked from same place. I got it from VW, cant recall how much but dont think much?

I replaced my metal water pipe at same time and all was a right fiddle! From memory I struggled to get it to seal first time around so used the gasket you can buy (I think the pipe had an o-ring fitted in the flange?) plus some instant gasket stuff.

Doesn't leak now! (But then the car is in bits anyway!)

Cheers
Andy

Hi. VW still stock these. The plastic part suffers from tiny cracks too
when it gets old, (like me).

Its called a flange: 026121144E.    ?5.06.
O ring may be with it 037121687    ?1.48.

Keep smiling !.

Just trying to sort mine today too. This is the second time as my first one cracked.

This one looks OK for now so like hairyarse says I am going to use sealant after cleaning up the faces on the outlet pipe and the head.

for anyone in the futre with this problem, it looks as though there could be 3 reasons for leak

1: plastic part cracked
2: rubber seal shot
3: limescale buildup around the head creating a shit sealing face, would probably only happen with a perished seal, however you may be able to save a trip to get a new part if you pull the seal out, fill the channel with gasket seal flip the seal and put it back in, clean the sealing face of the engine depending on if the seal is very perished.

Oh well!  Cleaned up my head face, flange (oo-err) and seal etc today and bolted it back on with sealant. It leaked like a b*******d!

It had a v.slight hairline crack on the inside which decided to let go when it was nipped back up.

No stock at VW anywhere near me but GSF do these so went down there, only ?4.50 including the VAT, their part number 17953 H if anyone needs to know! - This is for the one on the side of the head as shown in Kenno's picture, not the one on the front of the head that holds the thermostats/sensors.
