water leak( is it bad news )

hi all i have a 1990 1.8 auto cabby just passed its mot last tuesday everything running sweet got to my partners today and water is leaking out  i thought it was prob just a split hose but it seems to coming from either just under the manifold or poss from behind the top timing belt pulley is there any gaskets/seals that could perish or am i looking at something more serious the car runs and starts fine just leaks water/coolant as fast as you fill it it leaks and car doesnt have to be running  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:  :dontknow:  :cry:

thermostat housing or the water pump

nothing major all very fixable :)

Not if the leak is coming from either just under the manifold or poss from behind the top timing belt pulley.

Might be  core plug popped out back of engine

:cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry: garage just phoned head gasket is leaking been quoted £430 is that about right i know the lads very well at the garage so dont think they would rip me off only hope that when they strip her down the block is ok i am presuming it is just the gasket as i had no warning she was fine when went for mot drove her 3 mile to my girlfriends and she started leaking  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

i dont think it would be the head gasket unless it's really blown

i with gammy on this one, sound like core plugs

and £430 for a head gasket is alot of money, parts are only around £70 for the job tops

hi thanks for replying they said it is leaking from behind the timing belt pulley at the seam i am assuming the total cost is a new gasket the- head reskimming- new coolant - and the rest good old labour and vat

you did say you were losing a massive amount of water

even so £430 is loads, but that might be me being tight as i do everything myself on my cars

i lose it as fast as i put it in mate most things i will have a go at but this a bit above my head as above i am assuming  a good part of the cost will be labour

to change head gaskets is not a massivly hard job

with a manual a bit of time and pray your head is not bent it should be fine

OMG JellyBelly you are a LEGEND!! The core plug had come out of my manifold and I thought I may have to replace the manifolod but not now :) Ordered four plugs for £4 whhoopp Thanks again!!
