warm starting problems????????

hi
i had the carb rebuilt las year and it was fully tested before going onto my car,
when cold starts first turn every time, but when hot takes ages to start, looked aroun on here but most of the problems are for gti,s.i think its a fuel problem and not electrical, could it be the fuel seperator

its had a new filler pipe and a new fuel tank a couple of years ago so it wont be rust in tank, also i have changed the inline filter with a clear one and there is fuel half way up the filter body.

please help as i want to go to a local VAG SHOW next weekend
                 cheers paul

Il be watching this closly as I'm having exactly the same thing.

Basically it starts first time every time when cold but, when warm it turns over for a while before starting then splutters and I have to rev it through to get it running nice and after this - it will run perfectly.

What does every1 think?

Third person to add to the list.  My '88 1.6 petrol Caddy starts on the very first turn no problems when cold -but when warm I struggle to get it started.

Replaced the HT leads, points and condenser and cleaned the contacts at the coil.  The plugs and dizzy cap are fine.  Set the timing and adjusted the mix / idle speed.  It's got a manual choke Weber carb instead of the stock Perburg.

Very randomly it just cuts completely when I stop at roundabouts etc. but starts fine.  I also get some spluttering / loss of power -think it happens when I'm down to 1/4 of a tank so not had it since I remember to fuel-up at this point.

I'm not sure if the hot starting thing is due to me fiddling with the choke.  Not driven a manual choke for years and think when the engine's warm but not hot I'm giving it a bit too much choke -need to blast the gas pedal to get it starting properly and sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts.  I was thinking of replacing the coil next as it looks like the original one, maybe that's a bit tired now.

just been on to the bloke who recon,nd my carb and he asked what type of plugs i was using,i said unipart he said only use bosch plugs as they run hotter,
this could be the problem so now looking for a set of bosch plugs

   will keep you posted

have you tried using the correct starting procedure as laid out in the owners manual?

not that i can remember it right now though. but will look later.
i think it's one press of the accelarator pedal then foot off and turn the key.
