Trouble Starting in the morning

Hi guys,

I am having trouble starting in the morning. I turn the car over and it will try to start once, if I am quick enough on the throttle then it starts. But if I miss it then it wont start and I have to bump start it. I dont think there is a problem with the battery.

I have a 2litre 16v engine from a corrado in it. I have changed the spark plugs and leads, I was going to change the distributor and rotor arm but these look like they have bee modified from the original.

Could it be the coil not producing a big enoguh spark?

I will try to post some pictures of the dizzy later, but does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Ian

Starter motor, or bad earth?

I dont think it would be the starter motor, it turns over really well.

I am thinking that the spark isn't strong enough so it could be a bad earth.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Did you reconnect the 5th injector, thermo time switch and reconnect all the wiring, when you did the conversion?

Hi Paul,

I didn't do the conversion.. the previous owner did. Could you give me some more details on what you mean.. I only have limited knowledge when it comes to this.

Cheers,

Ian

Well, 5th injector is somewhere at the front and on the left of a 16V manifold, its an electric injector and it will have a fuel line and an 2 pin electrical connection.

TTS on a 16V is located on the left side of the block, just above the bellhousing. There's a couple of other sensors and connectors here too, so its a case of looking at each connector's wiring, and size of the sensor (TTS is a little larger than a coolant temp sensor) to see if one's there. Also it has a 2 pin connector, unsure what the other sensors in that area have but they're sometimes just 1 connector.

Both devices have red/black and green/white wires for the 2 connections.

I suppose you could remove the 5th injector to see if it 'test fires' when the starter is turned and the engine is cold. It will come on for a shorter time, or not at all, when the engine is warm/hot. It only comes on when the starter is turning, ie circuit 50 is energised (which I think, is the red/black wire).

Paul,

Thanks for all the info. I will hopefully have a chance to look at this at lunch time.

I will post back on here with any findings!
