Tools for Cam belt change ?

Hi everyone

I'm about to change my cam belt on the MK1

Can you recommend any special tools to aid this job?

I'm thinking of ordering a cambelt kit from euro car spares.

Many thanks (':D')

a bert for when those bolts dont undo.
a hammer for when bert trys to paint it blue
and if you cant get a bert an impact wrench will do. and if you round the allen bolts you'll need a welder to weld on new tops so you can remove them. simples.

If you do round off the allen bolts on the lower crank pulley they can be removed by hitting some kind of spline drive (Such a torx bit) tool into the rounded head of the bolt. Far easier than messing about with a welder.
This works really well, so much so that this is the way my mate deals with the problem - he's a technician at VW.
If you do suffer the problem with the rounded bolts you'll need 4 x M8 16mm replacement bolts. Even if your bolts come out ok it would be a good idea to put new ones in. Mine were less than ?1 and they are also stainless steel.

Hope it goes ok. :)

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Circlip pliers can be used to set the tensioner.
