to those who have fitted a weber....

what did you do with the "hedgehog" in the intake manifold..
did you leave it connected? remove it? disconnect it?

it looks to me like i might want to disconnect it and grind down the splines for better airflow.. or are the splines hollow?

my weber from Rich at crazyquiff's is almost here and i need to know what to do with that part of the manifold.   :dontknow:

any help would be appreciated.

(this is to replace a pierburg 1b3 on a 1.5L BTW)

Stays where it is fella & connect it, the weber your using to replace the pierburg/solex 1B3 will be the 36TLP, you'll be very happy with it once fitted

so you really think it's needed?

aftermarket mani's don't have one….  :dontknow:

and i'm sure i'll be happy with the weber.. i've had nothing but problems with the pierburg.. it ran better with the choke completely disconnected than hooked up.
i figured if i could spend the money and get it running correctly it's worth it.

So your saying you have an aftermarket manifold or original?
It's there to preheat or warmth the water in the manifold on cold start u[ thus warming the carb, especially handy in colder months
Pete.

P.S. have you got a pic of the manifold fella?

Post

it is the OEM manifold

here are some pics from when i first got the car.. they don't show the mani too well tho  :banghead:

i rebuilt the carb after these pics so don't think it looks like that now lol

is that bottom port supposed to just be open?

is the carb easy to set up?

i figured i'd be money and time ahead just to get a carb that works properly and has a manual choke.. why did they ever make the pierburg so fucking complex ? :banghead:

the thing is i wish i hadn't rebuilt the thing or got a spare from germany.. that was $120 down the drain.. or about 60 quid to you guys

The ports are water inlets, one on each side, the weber tlp is also used on an audi or passat also according to the instructions, they are not used with fitting to a mk1 1.5 golf fella.
Fitting approx 1hr and you should be up and running
