Timing setup of Ex engine number/code

after checking my manual there is no such type,,,,,,anybody know the tdc.
also noticed my pistons are coked up, can this be removed with additives without stripping the engine???

I assume that you have a late Clipper 1781cc ?? If you do then there is an engine code of 'EX' - I have the same engine in mine. If you want a Haynes Manual to get the timing info then you need the VW Scirocco manual number 1224.

hi
its a 1988 carb clipper, do you know where the engine code is located
because i need to confirm?
I have a haynes manual
Golf and Jetta Mar 1984—-Feb 1992
and it appears to say my engine is GU, with timing of 17-19 BTDC.
Also do i need to change angle for unleaded petrol??
Appreciate your reply
thanks

update….
found the timing mark on the fly wheel by removing the green cap on
top of gearbox.(look to be about 18 btdc)
engine running alot better now, still wondering about unleaded mods ?
