Temp guage flashes red on hard acceleration

I replaced the thermostat and waterpump on my golf 1.8 carb and the guage sems to flash when its been given some stick. The spring on the thermostat was a lot stiffer than that of the old one.

Am I on the right track or am I way off . . . . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would think this is electrical related and not connected to your pump replacement . Mine flashes when i turn on the lights !

The coolants a bit low and when you hammer it it all sloshes to the back of the expansion bottle the clocks think its empty :dontknow:  :dontknow:

(assuming a 1.8 carb has a level sender in thr top of the bottle?)

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
