Suspect water leak!

Ive been told I have a possible water leak from the back of the head. I have a member off the forum coming round on Saturday to have a look. Just trying to get a heads up before he lands. Could this be anthing else other than the dreaded head gasket?

Not really, might possibly be the pipes to the heater matrix as there at the back of the engine bay.

If its right at the back of the head however, then yeah your looking at the head gasket. Its not as big a job as alot of people make out tho. Its do-able, the worst bit is making sure the mating faces are all nice and clean.

I have just been out to the garage and theres water all over the floor. Seems to have lost a lot. Theres no water in the oil or vise-versa. The air box is clean. The car is not over heating and has never over heated since I have owned it. Could it be any thing else?

99% more likely to be the O ring in the inlet manifold.
Look  on the inlet manifold you will see a raised lump between spark plug 3 & 4.
Inside this there is a rubber ring which does perish and water will simply will pee out.
Check around there for water leak.
If so remove manifold, clean up all the face f manifold so nice and clean no lumpy bits of old gasket remaining, same with O ring area, get some silicon sealant attach new O ring, refit job done

Cheers guys. I have found the issue. Its the plastic cover/flange on the right hand side of the engine where the water goes into the block. I have ordered a new one and its coming on Monday. All this panic because a local, well know, main dealer car/garge company in the East Midlands told me my head gasket had gone. But still, thats first bit of good luck I have had this year.

Any change you could post a pic of this area as I think I may have the same problem. Cheers.

Tony it is a pretty biggish flange on the right side of the block at the top part of head as you look at block from the front.
Red dead's is plastic thou which is common to break on later cabby and mk2 golf's etc.
You is metal being a 1.5 so i wouldn't worry, but downside to your is as menionted in other post, no anti freeze means rust in teh blocks and metal rust, so check for tiny holes in flanges etc

we replace the flange last week on reds car and it was as bent as a 2bob note, the plastic ones are crap

if yours is metal and leaking from that area the O ring might have gone or the gasket
