I'm not 100% sure, should do, however most have been designed around the GTI.

You could look for a really cheap one and jump in, prob best to avoid fancy alloy ones tho.

I have one on my clipper, bur have a totally different carb set up.

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Flat pancake style YES, standard pancake or original airbox NO fellla.
This is only issue i noticed over teh years, braces made for gti's etc or used on blocks wiht twin weber for example so nothing blocking the route of brace.
I am surprised no one as yet done a brace for the bigger block mk1 & 2 golfs as they would sell.
Something i've always wanted on both my cars, i have lower and rears in both at moment

design below works well with a standard big block engine, in my case 1.8 with standard carb. only mod I havce made is to shorten one of the air filter spring clips just to stop it making contact, but that could just be engine mounts have a little more play than new.

sorry to hijack the thread but what exactly does the strut brace do?I thought it stiffens up the rigidity of the body?

You still have the pierburg carb on fella.
I should have made it more clear, but when you have a weber fitted the carb will sit higher than what it does with original carb due to adaptor plate etc thus i don't have a brace on the front on both my golfs.
If someone could make one for weber owners would be great, this is downfall only done as for original setup

I'd forgotten how much of a mess a stock engine bay was! I think most of the bits in the pic have been deleted from my bay.

Freeman: The basic principle of a stut brace it to prevent flex and movement in the suspension/body. Front can have both upper brace ( between suspension turrets ) and lower brace ( between the wishbones ). I have both. With the car being a cab, it's lost some of its structure, you can hear the difference if you take to upper brace off my car.

Thanks chris. My cabby is quite crashy on the road with bumps and uneven surfaces, will a strut brace help or will make the body more rigid and make it worse?

if its crashy on bumps/pot holes first place to check is the condition of the top mounts. Post a pic and people will be able to tell you if they are in need of replacement.

Your quite right coilovers, strutbraces etc designed to stiffen and therefore can lead to a harsher ride for uneven surfaces. Its just a preference thing as to what you consider the best balence is.

Not so sure crashing over bumps will be down to top mounts, more like worn out dampers or a broken spring. most cars are now over 20 years old now, so most of the surpension components will be past the sell by date!

I'd replace the top mounts if you are doing anything related to the front end suspension, well worth doing, I found my steering lighter with the new mounts on, plus it made changing the front struts easier, built up the new ones, then just swopped the old ones out as a complete unit

Stutbraces on thier own will not make a massive difference and wouldn't really effect the ride of a standard car, just stop it flexing. Ride quality with coilies depends on what you choose to run. Also the ride height will be an issue, if you are running low then you don't want much travel in the suspension, so it will be stiff, it all down to personal taste.

I have a Weber fitted, unfortunately I also have a strut brace fitted, which doesn't allow the standard airfilter/box to be fitted, so I think the strut brace needs to go :(
