Could be an airlock. When you started the car was your heater in the hot position? Is there any hot air coming through?

My mk1 cab ran hot, turned out the engine breather, part of the rocker cover, was totally block so the engine had loads crank case pressure! i cleaned it out(soaked whole cover in engine degreaser for about 4 hours) and she sweet now!!

I'd go with Chudd and backflush it. Pull both heater hoses off and connect a garden hose to the outlet and run until clear. Then do the same to the block.

hey guys, i flushed the heater matrix and all good but i have replaced the 2 valves leading to and from the heater matrix, the look like pressure valves that let the water into the matrix. it seems to be ok for now, still gets hot quick though

but no overheating as of yet

does the whole radiator get hot? i mean is there any cold spots on the radiator when its running and up to temp? ive had many rads partially blocked and will be fine whilst ticking over, but when driven cant remove heat quick enough and will then overheat the engine, may be time for a new radiator.
Bert

Thats not a rod knockin, its a diesel stupid! floppy top and 1 tin top

there is anew rad in there, brought 1 still didnt make any difference, i took the thermostat out and it doesnt over heat now, so maybe a faulty thermostat
