Starts then cuts out straight away (Video Attached! HELP!)

Hi,

I am trying to get a 1.8 GTi Lump running, I have checked it is getting fuel and the fuel pump is working and when the union is un-done that flows fuel into the metering unit it pisses out. (Although I'm not sure if its meant to be under such high pressure?)

Anyway, the car starts, sounds fine but just cuts out after 5 seconds. If you touch the accelerator it dies, it will start a couple of times then won't start again. If you leave it, it will start again in about 2 minutes but do the same thing as before.

I have taken a video. It also appears that a hissing noise can be heard from inside the engine bay and the pipe that leaves the inlet manifold, I have circled where I mean in the photo below:

Video here:
(The engine running in the background is my A3 which is being used as a battery as the golf's battery is dead and needs a charge!) You can hear the hissing in the video.)

Cheers for any help!
Joe

hi

i think you have answered your own Q, you need to get the air leak in the induction pipework fixed , this leak will be stopping the metering head from operating correctly , the electrically operated cold start injector is probably causing it to fire briefly at the moment
baz

ps that battery is def not helping matters

Okay I will be putting the battery back on tomorrow once its charged. As for the air leak, is it all the parts that I need to check or any specific areas? There appears to be a hole in front of what i circled in the photo above, is that supposed to be there? What is that part?

hi

its the non-return to create a vacumm in the servo , i think i know what hole you are talking about it supposed to be blanked off , just plug it with sealant on the surface .
the week battery will be causing all sorts of problems with the fuel supply , the volt drop accross the fuel pump will stop it operating properly when trying to start
cheers

The hole is in the black plastic t connector that the rubber pipes connect to, I will blank it off if you think thats what it needs. It did smoke originally but it stopped after it while.
