starting problems

I bought another 87 diesel caddy today which was off the road for 2 years.
I put in a new battery and i put diesel in the fuel filter. it takes about 1 minute for the glow plug light to go out and then it will turn over but wont start. I can Hear the fuel pump priming and the diesel is reaching the injectors but it wont start. Is there any way to check if the glow plugs are heating?

Don't laugh but on my mondeo I have had glow plug issues and the way I tested them was to check ohms at glow plug

If you have a multimeter and somebody with far greater knowledge of diesel golf will be able to tell you the ohms you should have at the glow plugs.

Thanks i got it started today i just cleaned all the connections to the glow plugs and then i tow started it.
