SOS car wont start SOS

hello people.
having some problems with my 1.8 cabby on sunday she wouldnt start. i checked all the plugs and they were pretty dirty . but were still sparking dizzy cap wasnt wet and there was enought feul getting through. so i changed all the spark plugs and no different
about a month ago i adjusted the choke as it keeped cutting out on cold start
is it likely that i could have givin too much choke and have caused the engine to flood
i have looked in the haynes manual but cant quite work it out

help me please dd

You need to let us know what carb is on the car?
Also it may sound like an airleak you have and possilble split air pipe or common carb flange split

that wont effect it.
other than air leak beyond the carb. check it's not arcing down the turret of the coil. we had it recently on a GTI (you know who you are) even the AA man was stumped till one of the 4 owners stood around it noticed it. it had a spark at the plugs and everything seemed fine. go figure.

the turret is where the ignition lead plugs into on the coil. arcing is when the spark jumps between a gap. so by arcing down the turret i mean that the spark thats ment to go into the engine doesn't. it sparks to the top of the coil. normally in damp weather when there is a lot of moisture sat on the coil. new lead and some damp start on the coil top are the normal cures.

that makes sence!!
i checked the dizzy cap inside and out. no moisture there. i checked the spark plug against the block and it was sparking at the right point.

even when i put the new plugs in i checked they were sparkin put them in with not a slight hint of fireing up.

is it possible that there could of been that much dfeul in there that the plugs just got wet straight away???

im not a mechanic, i know but i do enjoy doing things like this so i am very grateful for your advice.

any fuel in there would be long gone by now.
