Running Hot 1.8 Carb
I have just bought a Clipper (my first vw, I have finally gone to the dark side) and the person whom I bought it off states that he had done a flush and replaced the thermostat, but had bought it from GSF. The car is running fine, but instead of the gauge being in the middle, it is more to the right, just under 3/4's.
Are there different thermostates for the GTI vs the clipper, or is it worth just buying a VW thermostat and just changing it irrespective?
Thanks

You need to remove cap from expansion bottle in engine bay, located to the right as you look at the block.
put the heater control on hot and run engine for a few minutes or til engine gets to operation temp, this should remove any air locks in the system as when he/she did refill, they might have left the heater control on cold thus closing off warm supply to heater matrix.
Or it could be the the temp switch on the rad is faulty.
To test this get a multimeter, put switch in a pan of water, use pliers or like to hold switch and put multimeter on connections to see that once the water gets to temp ion order for switch to work you will see it on meter, if no movement n digits, then replace the switch

Could also be blocked radiator if its not going any cooler when you blast it down the motorway
*edit* Also i'm wondering why he changed the thermostat and did a flush in the 1st place. *edit*
