Rough Running

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 1990 clipper cabrio, nice looking car and in good nick but it runs roughly. As I am new to these can someone tell me if there is a problem with carbs on these cars.

It has had a manual choke conversion and I was told it had a twin choke webber fitted, but I not sure it has.

Needs full choke to start but is prone to stalling at low speeds and when I took the plugs out (replaced with new) they were black, which obviously points to it running to rich. Also seems hesitant when first accelerating but then seems to level out and pulls well.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Recently had a weber conversion done on my '91 Clipper as the original carb was a nightmare causing lots of similar problems.

Not personally an expert but a photo may help others more skilled to id what you have there.

Hi,

In my simplistic way I have assumed a twin choke would have two butterflies and two chambers, I'm sure someone will tell me otherwise if this is not the case!

Thanks

I assume the webber has a kick down setting, where the second venturi opens up on full throttle.

Get the carb re tuned, by adjusting the mixture and idle screws. Suggest a pro for this work.

Check that the float is fine, and there is no vacume leak on the carb. Are all sparks fine? Have you checked them properly?

Ohter than that a new air filer and fuel filter wouldn't hurt. Run some carb cleaner through aswell (the stuff that melts fingers)
