Rocker Cover Gasket Breaking!
Hi,
I have a 1990 Clipper 1.8 Carb (2e2 - unfortunatley!!)
My Rocker cover gasket was broken and squirting oil over the inlet and exhaust manifold (the plumes of smoke were a give away!!).
I replaced the gasket (which was only 6 months old anyway had been no problem) with a new cork one last night and within 20 seconds it started leaking. I have checked the big breather in to the air box is clear - very weird!
I hope to replace the gasket AND rocker cover tonight or tomorrow.
Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved.
Rob

Were both surfaces that the gaskets sit against clean? Also how much did you tighten it by, doesn't need to be that tight all, 7 Ib/ft if I remember rightly. You can crush and damage the gasket if you overtighten.

i had the same problem when i replaced my rocker cover gasget. Its worth using some sealant to keep it in place and ensure a good fit.In the end i converted mine to a mk2 one piece rubber gasget available from VW,you have to change the rocker cover studs, but the gasget itself is a far better fit.

Solved - I think!! Time will tell.
I think I had been over tightening the nuts on the rocker and bending the cover thus allowing the oil to be set free!
Thanks Markwon you were spot on!
So with a little less muscle and no gasket sealent just cork it is sorted.
Thanks
