reving at 30,000 from cold why

hi iv had my mk1 golf for about 2 years now and i wonderd if any one can tell me why it as started reving at 30,000 revs but only when its cold when i first start it up

That's a lot of rpm lol.

This may be down to a few things… what model is yours as the gti runs quickly initially due to the automatic choke.

is it a jet engined mk1?  :lol:
gti or carb engine? a diesel wouldnt play up  :wink:

its a 1989 clipper carb engine 90,000 on the clock lake side said it was a broken wire to the carb which they did for me but still got the problem so dont want take it to them again

probably got a pierburg carb on it? best go for a webber replacement,the auto chokes are no good on them,vauxhalls had the same problem with the pierburgs  :|  im shure the parts are obsolete at the dealers now too?

redex wont help,its the choke bit thats no good,look on ebay they pop up quite a bit,make sure its for a 1.8 though  :wink:

i think they are about £27 from europarts

and i think you're revving at 3,000 not 30K lol
