replacement carb for 1987 mk 1 cabrio (1600 manual)

hi folks

i'm trying to get a new, replacement carb for my 1987 mk 1 cabrio (1600, manual).  the one currently fitted is a pierburg 2e (NOT a 2e2).  i just tried vwheritage but at first i was asked if it was a 2e or a 2e2, then after i had checked i called back saying it was a 2e, but i seem to have been given a product code for (weber replacement for) a 2e2, with a £342 total price (inc spanish delivery)!!  now i'm not even sure if this is the right part as i have the 2e?  i think the confusion is around the fact that it was built after the mark2 came out but is still a mark 1 design.

the car has just failed its spanish MOT for this reason, and i am  :banghead: trying to ensure i get the right part asap.  can anyone help to clarify what i need and advise where i might be able to get one????

mucho appreciado.

have a look at my 2e2 repair guide if it looks liek the pics in there its a 2e2 carb. it might be the dodgy half 2e2 half spi conversion thingy which is a bit of a rarity here, but even then im pretty sure the webber for the 2e2 will replace it. only thing is does yours have a cat, if it does im not sure if the webber can be made to work without killing it
