Reallly bad performance and consumption problem

I wonder if someone can help me, but my 1.6 mk1 is really slow, tops out on about 140km/h (about 90miles) and like uses crazy fuel even when driving like a granny! I already has a new carb and timing is spot on! What can my problem be???

could be few things - but post back some info so peeps can make a better judgement…

like - auto or manual and how many gears, how many miles on car, what bits you have changed and not……when did you last service

Engines lose power with age and milegae if they haven't been well maintained - I normally get low 20s out of mine but its short journeys and it tops out at not much over 90

longer runs i get 31/32 - not as much as most on the forum but mine hasn't been so well looked after or restored

engine was rebuild about 40000miles back, serviced it every interval, last service a month back

personaly i would just go to a tunning garage and ask them to set ur carb up and i don't mean rolling road just a basic set up cost a few pints and real solve ur problem i expect carbs do have a habbit of de tunning there selfs i will get mine done this year even thou it seems fine,
