Any info will be massively appreciated!
Right, The cars sat its sump on the floor pretty much.
Raising the engine seems the best solution for this
BUT
you have to take into consideration the actual space between the engine and the bonnet and the down pipe actually still fitting.
I was thinking about 20mm will be substantial for this.
My old man's and engineer so i wont be going for the hockey puck option but actually milling mounts.
Can anyone shed light on this? or steer me in the right direction in terms of any drawings of mounts etc?
Thanks in advance!
Josh.

Hi Josh.
Can't be much help with specs and stuff, but why not pucks? 99% of people run puck style when raising and the only ill effects are when they get greedy with thickness. Stick to 15mm-20mm and see how it goes, then maybe get your dad to machine up some posh ones when you know what thickness works.

I'm not sure, someones bound to have done a step-by-step. There's guys on Edition 38 that have done it, maybe try there aswell.

You can't use pucks because mk1s have a different mount design.
Only mk2s onwards can use pucks because the mount sits on top of the rubber bush and a bolt securing it vertically. A mk1 mount has the bush horizontal so the only effect a puck type modification would do is move the engine forwards or backwards.
The only way to raise your engine is to remanufacture all four mounts to your custom spec. I've done it on my mk1 in the past and its not a testing procedure if you're handy with a welder and patient! Here is my front engine mount to show you an example of how to do it;
I started off making a mock up using cardboard to get the general sizes/dimensions right.

i have never tried raising the engine, but wouldn't raising the engine cause issues with the gear linkage. shallow sump seems like the better option.

I will PM you with more info when I get a chance Josh
Raising the engine does cause issues with the gear linkage, but as long as you've modified the linkage to work it's no issue.
A shallower sump is the same difficulty as raising the engine but the amount of work is much less. I have never done it myself because my engine was a small block and the sump is never a problem no matter how low you are.
