Question regarding tappets

Hi guys,

I've removed my clippers cylinder head as the head gasket was blowing. I've had the head ported and polished while it was off and they did all the valve work for it too. When I removed the camshaft before it went for porting/polishing, I discovered the bucket tappets had no recess for the shims and they were just flat, different to the ones in haynes manual..Can anyone advise me if they'll be fine to go back as they are or do I need new ones?

Thanks

Robin

If the tappets are hydraulic you'll need to compress them in a vice to remove the oil out of them. Do this VERY slowly and with continual pressure and protect the top surface by using a flat piece of wood or similar. That way they can re-set to the new heights of the valves & take up any clearance issues.
