problem with cabrio cutting out

I have a 90 clipper. It has recently (twice), failed on me!. The revs seem to surge… drop every couple of seconds, as though it is going to stall. It gets slower in speed until it finally cuts out. Seems to take ages to start, then continues to act the same. When started hours later the problem has gone. It seems as though it only happens when warmed up. As I only do a few miles here and there in it I'm not sure. Can anyone help plaese???

This could also be a fuel related problem see post above this one .

this is the most common problem with golfs.

On my car a 88 clipper had the same problem when I got it
runs ok then jerky and then stalling then dead. wait for a little while and
away she would go.

I found that the small filter on the fuel pickup in the tank had perish
and the tank had rust and tiny bits of sand and gravel in it.
and that these tiny stone were going down the fuel line and blocking it.
when it would sit they must drop out of position and allow fuel through
and then become stuck again.

not know if i could get a replacment pickup filter i made one out of a cheep plasting fuel filter just cut off one end it looked like a bell.

I know I should have take the tank out and cleaned it but I just did the best I could with it in place.  drained it with the fuel lines and wiped the bottom of the tank with paper towels.
Its now been about 6 months the those problems have never arose again.

if first you dont succeed. read the instructions.
